Well, what happened next?

Just what anyone might expect. I totally freaked out, and I don't mean a little bit. Although there was still a sense of awe and squee to the unexpected consequences of this prank, I had no clue as to what to make of it.

What did it all mean? Was I gay? A closeted cross dresser all these years? I was used to getting some looks askance over the time. I
do wear a kilt on occasions and when I play with a group of Scottish fiddlers, and I do have shaved legs as a holdover from my road bike racing days – but this? What kind of a mid life crisis was this to have foist upon me? What had I done wrong in life to be saddled with this utterly girly thrill?

Being a fact finding sort of guy. It was time to do some research and figure out what my malfunction was and jump on it's immediate correction, as time was doing nothing to solve this vexation. Time to Google up “men with painted nails” and get to the bottom of this.

Boy, was I surprised. Rather than finding a boatload of empirical data and psych papers on what the problem was, I found that I was apparently not as alone as I had suspected. Far from it! I discovered a veritable cornucopia of sites, blogs, “support groups”, and other such resources and tomfoolery.

I had no clue that so many men painted their nails! Some were as new or newer to it than I was, some had been painting for decades, and the gamut of teens to octogenarians was covered. A most interesting amalgam of straights, gays, cross dressers, transsexuals, and other men and women that simply liked seeing men painted up. Certainly a surprise to me!

Who knew?

OK, now some of you may have thought the previous as a joke. Wasn't even paying attention to the date when I posted it. No joke.

This all started during a same old same old sort of day of clearing abandoned goods from a vacant apartment. Upon clearing a closet, I at least found some nice red suede heeled platforms that I thought would look great on my wife. Minor win. Upon getting home, I proudly laid them out on the floor and asked what she thought, and as she walked up to them, my minor win turned to epic fail. It became immediately obvious that they were far too big. She actually suggested that they looked more my size. It turns out that she was right!

We crafted a prank to post on FaceBook. I'd model the shoes with painted nails, she'd post on her FB page, and troll for comments for a few days before spilling the beans, Adding to the "sell" on this is that I've had shaved legs for years as a holdover from my road bike racing days.

The day came for the pics - and the unintended consequences. I didn't really pay any attention to the whole process as it unfolded, but when I looked down upon my painted tootsies in those shoes - I was transfixed! I felt “pretty”! ~:0 I'm a 52 year old GUY! I'm not supposed to feel pretty!!! The horrible truth was that I was head over heels in love with having painted toenails.

Great! What the hell ELSE is going to happen, I wondered.

This is the look that started this odd adventure.

I originally started out thinking that this would be a place where I would come to opine on politics and the upcoming election. Mebbe not...

I have grown tired of politics. Not that it's not an important issue, but I'm simply weary of the constant drumbeat of BS from any and every party. Now I know that even that may offend some, but so be it. Facts are facts, you're who you are and I'm who I am.

I was still in "recovery mode" at the time that I signed up here. Now what I mean by that is that I was in my initial "Freak Out" phase of the unintended consequences of an online prank that the wife and I had staged on FB.

I had no idea what to do with the fact that in the bat of an eye, I had been lured into a love affair with having painted nails.

I may take a far different direction than originally intended here.

After considerable and careful consideration ~ it is an odd ravine in which I flourish ~ yes?
